2003 School District Waste Reduction Survey Results/Final Report

How to View 2003 Survey Results

The 2003 School District Waste Reduction Survey (Survey) is very similar to school district waste reduction surveys the CIWMB has conducted in prior years, but with a couple of minor improvements. This is the first year that the Survey was available in a Web-based format. The new format not only offered added convenience to school districts participating in the Survey, but also added efficiencies for Board staff to analyze the Survey data and to report the results. Additionally, the 2003 Survey form was modified to capture the number of the responding district’s schools participating in each waste reduction activity. This additional information is helpful in understanding the level of program implementation on a districtwide basis.

Final Report

Data from the school districts that participated in the 2003 Survey have been summarized and analyzed for the CIWMB, school district(s), and jurisdiction(s), in the following Final Report. Download a copy Final Report (Acrobat PDF, 910 KB).

On-line Database

The on-line database is also available to individuals who wish to access and compile the 2003 Survey data. The data are provided in the following formats:
  • Completed survey forms - A complete listing of the responding school districts and the corresponding contact e-mail address is available. To view each District’s completed survey, select the District name.
  • Program Categories by County. Survey responses for specific waste reduction activities are available by county(s) and statewide. The first step is to select the waste reduction program category including: Waste Prevention, Purchasing Options, Recycling, Transportation, Composting or Implementation Barriers. The next step is to select the specific waste reduction activity (e.g., grasscycling, aluminum can recycling, food scrap composting) and the county(s) for which the data are desired. These data can be viewed to determine what programs are being implemented locally and in nearby or similar regions, to make comparisons, to get additional diversion program ideas and to establish networks for developing and sustaining successful waste reduction programs in your district.
  • School District Contact Information. The contact information for the district representative that completed the Survey is provided to facilitate communication with respect to diversion program logistics and to establish working relationships between jurisdictions and school districts. This information should not be used for solicitation purposes.
