The County Office of Education is the agency that acts between the California Department of Education and the public school districts by: advising and assisting school districts in managing budgets, supervising and supporting school districts in complying with state and federal laws, assisting and training teachers, and developing curriculum.

Cities, Counties & Schools Partnership (www.ccspartnership.org)
The CCS Partnership is a joint effort of the League of California Cities, California State Association of Counties and California School Boards Association. The Partnership promotes the development of public policies that build and preserve communities by encouraging local collaborative efforts among California's 476 cities, 58 counties and more than 1,000 school boards and districts the partners represent.

Environmental Action Schools (www.co.contra-costa.ca.us/depart/cd/recycle/eaps/)
A free program for schools located in the unincorporated areas of Contra Costa County and the City of Oakley designed to help school children in grades K-12 become more aware of their environment through easily accomplished actions and activities that take place at school. By participating in this program, schools can earn the prestigious title of becoming an Environmental Action School.

Environmental Volunteers (www.evols.org)
For 30 years, the Environmental Volunteers have been providing hands-on science education to K-8 children in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties.

Generation Earth (www.generationearth.com/)
This is an environmental program of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works, presented by TreePeople. This site goes over small choices people make in everyday life that can dramatically affect the amount of waste produced, and how teachers and students can take action.

GreenTeam of San Jose (www.greenteam.com)
This homepage for San Jose residents contains information on how and what to recycle, answers to recycling questions, and the destination of the recyclables in their city.

The Sacramento Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) can help students to meet their community service requirement. Students choose a project that will benefit the animals at the SSPCA.

The Peanut Hotline is your resource for finding a local drop-off location for "packaging peanuts", also known as polystyrene loose fill.

County Waste Management Authority and the Alameda County Source Reduction and Recycling Board provides this comprehensive site, which is a great resource for Alameda County teachers and students.
