The Santa Barbara Regional Recycling Market Development Zone (RMDZ) includes the cities of Santa Barbara, Lompoc, and Santa Maria, and the County of Santa Barbara. Approximately 2731 square miles within the county are included in the zone, 7140 acres of which are zoned for commercial or industrial use. IncentivesLocal incentives vary by jurisdiction and include permit assistance and fast-track permitting, loan programs, assistance finding funding sources, business outreach, fee reductions, technical assistance, and other incentives. Target MaterialsMaterials targeted for the Santa Barbara Regional RMDZ include polyethylene terephthalate (PET); high-density polyethylene (HDPE); scrap plastics such as low-density polyethylene (LDPE) which includes agricultural film; glass; mixed paper; and compostable materials. Targeted industries include, but are not limited to, producers of HDPE pellets, shopping bags, surfboard components, construction products, art supplies, glass tiles, glass construction blocks, molded pulp products, compost, blending amendments, and mulch. InfrastructureThe infrastructure in all jurisdictions will support recycling and reuse business development. Highway 101 runs through the county, linking it with the potential end product markets and export points of San Francisco and Los Angeles. Highways 1 and 246 also provide connections to 101, and the Southern Pacific railroad provides service to the heart of the industrial zones. Several rail spurs are available in industrial areas within the zone to provide easy transportation access. Contact Information
