Reuse Assistance Grants Fiscal Year 1999/2000 Grant Recipients |

At its October 26-27, 1999 meeting, the Board allocated $150,000 for the fiscal year 1999/2000 offering of the Reuse Assistance Grants. At its October 17-18, 2000 meeting, the Board approved staff's recommendation to award the grants. The application period ran from July 3, 2000 through September 1, 2000. The Board received a total of four applications, and approved all four for funding, totaling $123,954.50.
The following jurisdictions received grants to promote the concept of reuse. Redding, City of ($31,770.00)Description of project: Expanded its existing reuse/recycle drop-off area by 6,825 square feet to accept materials which originally were sent to landfills, and promoted their reuse program through advertisements, fact sheets, and a coloring contest. San Joaquin County ($23,500.00)Description of project: Developed an educational outreach program to encourage businesses and residents to reuse; conducted waste audits for businesses generating targeted materials; developed a reuse manual identifying locations that use targeted materials; created an advertising campaign targeting the business community; and fostered education through community newsletters, articles, and advertising encouraging reuse. Tehama County Sanitary Landfill Agency ($25,152.50)Due to unforeseen conflicts, this grant was declined by the
recipient.
Ventura County ($43,532.00)Description of project: Implemented a high-profile multimedia campaign promoting the use of the ReStore that included newspaper advertisements, a direct mail package, information displays at key point-of-purchase/permit counters, phone book advertisements, a billboard, one-on-one contact with contractors pulling building permits, and regular reminders through the VCMAX publication and Web site (www.vcmax.org/).
