A nnual Pennies and Peanut Butter Food Drive (www.feedoc.org/)—Orange County
Local elementary and middle school students participate in this food drive by collecting pennies, peanut butter, and other nonperishable food to donate to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County. 

February 3
" Scouting for Food Plus" Food Drive (www.feedoc.org/)—Orange County
Boy Scouts throughout the county will drop off donation bags to Orange County homes to collect food and clothing items from residents in the community. The Scouts will return on Saturday, February 10, 2002 to pick up bags filled with food and clothes to be distributed to the needy by the Second Harvest Food Bank and Goodwill Industries of Orange County. The community may participate by marking their calendars and looking for the donation bag.

" Scouting for Food Plus" Food Drive (www.feedoc.org/)—Orange County
Boy Scouts throughout the county will collect food and clothing items from residents in the community. After dropping off donation bags to Orange County homes on February 3, 2002, the Scouts return today to pick up bags filled with food and clothes to be distributed to the needy by the Second Harvest Food Bank and Goodwill Industries of Orange County.

Donations of children's (one to 18 years of age) books are being accepted throughout California. All books will be given by the California Highway Patrol to the children of farm workers.

Annual Super White Elephant Sale —Oakland
Mountains of donated items ranging from household goods and luggage to sporting equipment and antiques will be available for purchase at the Bay Area's largest rummage sale. Since the first sale 42 years ago, the event has raised $8.35 million for the Oakland Museum of California.

One creative way for young people to "scare away hunger" is to ask their neighbors for cans of food when they go trick-or-treating on Halloween.
