To take advantage of canned goods and bottled water that were stored up in anticipation of Y2K problems, the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County is coordinating a food drive.

S couting for Hunger Food Drive (www.feedoc.org/)—Orange County
Boy Scouts throughout the county will drop off a donation bag to Orange County homes to collect food and clothing items from residents in the community. The Scouts will return on Saturday, February 12, 2000 to collect bags filled with food and clothes to be distributed to the needy by the Second Harvest Food Bank and Goodwill Industries of Orange County. The community may participate by marking their calendars and looking for the donation bag.

Elementary school children throughout the county donate peanut butter and pennies from their piggy banks to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County. Peanut butter is a staple commodity that is in high demand. Monetary donations assist the Food Bank in providing more of these staple foods to the needy.

Unused travel size hygiene products (e.g., soap, lotion, shampoo, etc.) can be dropped off at the sorting center located at Inland Center, in the old Oshman's store, lower level south end of the mall, next to Harris'/Gottschalks. Monday-Friday: 5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday: 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Donations will benefit homeless families. The City of Berkeley's Recycling Program is coordinating a city-wide garage sale as a part of Second Chance Week. The City will provide participating residents with tips on organizing a garage sale, a listing of registered garage sales, and a customizable bright yellow poster for promoting their sale. The City will also distribute the listing of participating residents to potential shoppers. Approximately 225 households and organizations will be participating.

The Dress to Impress event was created to provide interview-appropriate clothing to low-income men and women who are entering the workplace. Red Ribbon Week Parade Canned Food Drive —Downtown San Bernardino
Red Ribbon Week parade participants will collect and donate non-perishables to community food pantries and shelters, feeding more than 2,000 families. Donations will benefit Second Harvest Food Bank serving Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. After the parade, cash prizes up to $300.00 will be awarded to groups such as schools and other organizations that bring in the most food.

Donations Drop Off: If your school is planning a food drive, the Second Harvest Food Bank will provide containers and pick-up. Classrooms and/or individuals must drop off their non-perishable food items between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. The designated drop off location is the San Bernardino City Unified School District Parking lot on the corner of 8th Street and "F" Street in San Bernardino.
