The Ecological Farming Association
(EFA) is a nonprofit educational
organization that promotes ecologically sound and sustainable agriculture in California.
EFA is dedicated to "supporting the growing of abundant food, protecting natural
resources, preserving diversity, honoring rural life and work, and inspiring better
farming." Since agriculture is viewed as one of the largest potential markets for recycled compostable organic products, EFA and the Waste Board have worked together at workshops, conferences, and farm tours to demonstrate and encourage effective use of compost and mulch products for agriculture. EFA conferences and one-day workshops on specific crops and manure management serve to educate growers in sustainable methods, especially use of compost and mulch. Peer teaching is a key part of EFA's approach, with farmers and growers telling about their personal experiences using sustainable farming methods. The Board has supported EFA workshops and conferences, including the annual Ecological Farming Conference held every January at Asilomar in Pacific Grove.
