Local Enforcement Agency (LEA) Training Landfill Gas Monitoring and Control Strategies at Developed Sites |

Dates and LocationsMarch 22-23, 2006, Santa Ana In March and April 2006, the California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) offered two, two-day training classes to LEAs, landfill operators, and CIWMB staff on the topic of strategies for monitoring and controlling landfill gas at closed sites and/or developed sites. The goal of this class was to give attendees a better understanding of implementing gas monitoring and control regulations at developed sites and to share case studies on disposal sites already impacted by development.
Summary64 people attended the training including LEAs and CIWMB staff. Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) continuing education units (CEUs) were offered. Workshop Topics
Instructors and PresentersThe engineering firm of SCS Engineers, Inc. was contracted by the CIWMB to instruct the two classes. Coupled with the technical curriculum presented by SCS Engineers and GC Environmental, Inc., there were several other presentations made by CIWMB and LEA staff, along with a special presentation by one of the CIWMB’s tire program consultants, Kennec Engineering, on the topic of tire-derived aggregate, a technology for recycling tires.
