Fire Coordination Meetings

CIWMB staff would like to announce three Regional Coordination Meetings on the topic of Fires in Stored Piles: please see information posted to the Board’s fire web page. A copy of the meeting announcement and registration form is attached: Adobe PDF, 87 KB | MS Word, 157 KB.

The three Regional Coordination Meetings are scheduled in November 2005 to bring involved parties together and review the recommendations from the March 29, 2005 Public Workshop on Fires in Stored Piles. The upcoming coordination meetings will help promote systematic coordination between local enforcement agencies (LEAs), operators and fire service personnel; offer a venue to consider regional fixes to solid waste fire prevention and suppression; and further promote cooperative efforts among stakeholders at the local level on this burning issue.

Participants can register for the following venues:

November 2, 2005 -- Fresno
November 9, 2005 -- Marysville
November 29, 2005 -- Irvine

Please remember that the high air temperatures the state experiences from now until November increase the risk of solid waste fires. Board staff encourage LEAs to work with operators and your local fire authorities to prevent solid waste fires and invite them to participate in one of the Coordination Meetings.

The Board continues to work with the State Fire Marshal, EAC and CCDEH on the subject of fires in solid waste piles.
