Grant Awards

Awarded to: Gas Technology Institute on May 15, 2007
Award Amount: $740,000
Status of Contract: Gas Technology Institute acceptance received October 10, 2007.

Gas Technology Institute in partnership with Waste Management and Linde BOC propose to construct and operate a liquefied natural gas (LNG) production facility that will utilize approximately 2,600 standard cubic feet per minute (scfm) of collected landfill gas (LFG) from the Waste Management Altamont Landfill in Livermore, California. The technical goals of the project are to remove contaminants from the LFG to purify the methane fraction; liquefy the methane fraction by cooling to cryogenic temperatures using a GTI-patented multi-refrigerant process; storage of LNG on-site; and supplying LNG to the Waste Management fleet and other consumers. This project is anticipated to produce 13,000 gallons per day of LNG and displace over 2.8 million gallons per year of diesel fuel.

Awarded to: Prometheus Energy Company on June 12, 2007
Award Amount: $260,000
Status of Contract: Prometheus Energy Company voluntarily withdrew after being awarded this grant.

Prometheus Energy Company proposes to construct and operate an LNG production facility that will utilize approximately 1,860 scfm of collected LFG from the County of Sacramento’s Kiefer Landfill in Sacramento County, California. The LNG production facility will consist of all items required to safely produce, store, and distribute LNG from the site. The facility will include LNG storage, cryogenic tanker transfer scale, electrical generation power connections and security fence, and Prometheus’ purifier/liquefier equipment. This project is anticipated to produce 10,000 gallons per day of LNG.
