Document Survey Controls 

Document survey controls are used to locate and grid a field site when the area of interest contains no notable landmarks or reference points.

Benchmarks 

Benchmarks are marking on a permanent object indicating elevation and serving as a reference in topographical surveys.

Latitude and Longitude Data

Latitude: Angular distance north or south from the Earth's equator measured in degrees. 

Longitude: Angular distance measured east or west of the prime meridian expressed in degrees or in time.
