Alternative Final Cover Assessment | Alternative Final Cover | Waste Containment Liner Design | Alternative Earthen Final Cover Design | Sanitary Landfill Design May 2001 and May 2002, throughout California In May 2001 and May 2002, staff from the Integrated Waste Management Board and the State Water Resources Control Board, in conjunction with the Desert Research Institute (DRI), conducted a one-day workshop for the local enforcement agencies (LEA), Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB), and industry. The goal was to educate attendees on the scientific theory and engineering principles behind alternative covers and to update them on the current status of the Alternative Cover Assessment Program (ACAP) project. Some of the presentations given at the workshop are available for download here but require Microsoft PowerPoint (PPT) for viewing. Others have been converted to text outline form. For a hard copy of the slides, or for an electronic copy of the PowerPoint presentation, please contact Melissa Gunter. Mr. William Albright of Desert Research Institute was the main speaker at the training courses.
Dr. Paul Rosenfeld and Mr. Lawrence Lansdale gave a different perspective on alternative covers and discussed the cover design they implemented in Guam. They also discussed the use of plants as a means of soil remediation and erosion control.
