Electronic Product Management Financial Assistance: Is There Help Out There? |
|
|
Planning for the eventual end-of-life management of
electronic products is one thing, while paying for it is
another. While the value of materials in certain components
may cover the costs of recovery and processing, thus resulting in little
charge to the generator, other components, such as the cathode ray tube
(CRT) in a computer monitor or television, may require costly hazardous
materials handling.
The CIWMB offers household hazardous waste management grants to assist local governments with the cost of collecting and safely recycling or disposing of certain residentially generated materials. Grant cycles and eligibility requirements vary. Collectors and recyclers may also be able to find low cost financing through tax-exempt bonds through the California Pollution Control Financing Authority (CPCFA) for the acquisition, construction, and/or installation of qualified pollution control equipment and waste management capabilities. |
