CalMAX Update: Winter 1999

The Special Organics Edition is Here!

We are proud to present the first Special Organics Edition of the CalMAX catalog. This edition was the culmination of a great deal of internal coordination between several Board programs. We embarked on this project believing that the leveraging of efforts between the CalMAX program and the newly created Organic Materials Management (OMM) program would result in the advancement of their goals and increase the effectiveness of both. This catalog contains not only the usual—and sometime unusual—but always useful materials listings, but also a centerfold section dedicated to the Board’s organic efforts. In it you will find descriptions of OMM’s many programs designed to help develop markets for organic materials and reduce the amount of these materials being landfilled. With over one-third of organic materials currently being landfilled, this program has a significant job ahead.

Another feature of this special edition is the advertisement located throughout the catalog. The hosting of paid advertising in the CalMAX catalog is a part of a project designed to:

• Allow businesses and other organizations to partner with CalMAX and promote their businesses or programs with heightened visibility.

• Allow CalMAX to recover some printing and mailing costs.

• Allow CalMAX to evaluate the feasibility of balancing program workload and the administration involved with advertisements in the catalog.

Pursuing these goals in collaboration with OMM is a positive step toward making an impact on the markets for organic materials.

The success of this issue will be one of the factors that determine whether or not we will produce another special edition of CalMAX.
