Wanted: California Law Firm That Wants Help Reducing Its Paper Load!

The California Integrated Waste Management Board is seeking a medium-sized law firm in California to take part in a Paper Waste Reduction Pilot Project, which will serve as a model for other law firms. Science Applications International Corporation, a subcontractor to the Board, will provide free assistance to the selected firm in setting up a paper recycling and prevention program.

General criteria for the firm that we will select for the project are:

At least 20 attorneys working in one office.
Minimal or no paper recycling presently taking place.
Interest from the top down in reducing the amount of paper used and disposed.

SAIC will screen candidate firms to determine eligibility and willingness to participate in the pilot project.

Assistance during the pilot project will include:

Assessment of current paper-handling practices.
Research of appropriate local recycling vendors.
Facilitation in implementing five paper waste reduction recommendations.
Help in tracking the amount of paper recycled and paper waste prevented.

Responsibilities for the firm and the assistance team will be delineated in a signed letter prior to initiation of the project. Responsibilities of the firm include:

Assign a point of contact to oversee the project.
Allow the SAIC team to visit during working hours.
Provide access to paper purchase, use and disposal data.
Initiate five recommended paper waste reduction program elements and track (with assistance from SAIC) the impacts of the paper waste prevention efforts during the pilot program.
