We developed waste information for different business types based on the assumption
that similar businesses have similar waste streams. Since there are many types of
businesses, we used federal Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) codes to group
businesses together. We used the 83 major groups (2-digit codes) and combined them
into 39 business groupings, putting businesses with similar waste streams together. Some
groups are "catch all" groups of less similar businesses, but ones that are also
less numerous and/or less likely to be targeted for waste diversion programs.
NOTE:
Previously we used 38 groups. "Services - Other" has been split
into "Services - Other Miscellaneous" and "Services - Other
Professional."
