Awards

Applying for an award is a great way to validate an outstanding waste diversion program. Review the list of awards below and also check with your local jurisdiction for locally sponsored award programs.

  • Governor's Environmental and Economic Leadership Award: This annual program is the State of California's highest and most prestigious environmental honor. The program recognizes individuals, organizations, and businesses that have demonstrated exceptional leadership and contributions in conserving California's precious resources, protecting and enhancing our environment, and building public-private partnerships.
  • U.S. EPA National Environmental Performance Track: A government recognition program for facilities that have implemented high-quality environmental management systems. Members form a learning network that shares best practices, encourages continuous environmental improvement, fosters public outreach and community involvement, and promotes performance measurement. Current members include Grand Canyon and Grand Teton National Parks, San Antonio Mission, Xanterra Lodge at Mt. Rushmore, and the Colonial Acres Golf Club.
  • WRAP Awards: The Waste Reduction Awards Program (WRAP) is administered by the CIWMB. WRAP provides an opportunity for California businesses to gain public recognition for their outstanding efforts to reduce solid waste. Some previous WRAP award winners that are large venues include:
    • The Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach
    • Bear Valley Cross Country Resort
    • Commerce Casino
    • Del Monte Golf Course
    • The Disneyland Resort
