Used Oil Recycling Program

Used Oil Haulers

Used oil haulers must be registered with the Department of Toxics Substances Control (DTSC) prior to transporting used oil to a used oil recycling facility. Industrial generators or certified used oil collection centers that file used oil recycling incentive claims (16 cents per gallon of used oil collected) must show that a registered transporter was used to transport the used oil. If a registered transporter (i.e. used oil hauler) was not used, the claim for the used oil recycling incentive will be denied.

Use of a registered transporter is necessary by individuals who need to transport greater than 55 gallons of used oil; industrial generators; and certified used oil collection centers intending to file a used oil recycling incentive claim with the California Integrated Waste Management Board.

See DTSC's Registered Hazardous Waste Transporter database to locate a hauler who is currently registered (CIWMB does not endorse or recommended any particular company).

A list of used oil recycling facilities in California is available on this site for registered transporters.
