Selection Criteria

Nominated programs were judged on the following questions as they pertained to the programs:

• Jurisdiction must have a recycled content or green procurement policy.
• Has the program achieved a measurable reduction in disposed waste?
• Is the program cost-effective in terms of its relative cost for the amount of waste diverted?
• Do a majority of those eligible to participate in the program take part on a regular basis?
• Has the program helped to develop markets for recycled materials and provided local jobs?
• Does the program include innovations by means of unique ideas or technologies?
• Is the information about this program useful to other jurisdictions in evaluating whether such a program would work for them?
• Does the program demonstrate a cooperative approach to reducing disposal?
• Does the program address a wide range of diversion and disposal issues?
• Does the program have a positive impact on other environmental issues in your community?
• Does the program address the diverse needs of the community served?
