The Dool Elementary Kinder Playground Area in the Calexico Unified School District was poorly installed with inadequate spacing. Safety inspections done by personnel and outside contractors cited the area as old, dangerous, and a liability. The project consisted of removal and relocation of the prior playground equipment. Used tires were used in the installation to comply with stricter California playground standards. Using rubberized surfacing is much safer for students and liability has been greatly reduced.

This project diverted 452 California waste tires from landfills.
