Below are before and after views of the Alta Sierra School playground in Grass Valley, refurbished using $23,414 in grant funds obtained by Pleasant Ridge Union School District through the Board's 1997/98 Playground Cover and Track Surfacing program. The playground is safer, more attractive, easier to maintain, meets Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards, and is more accessible after wet weather.
This project used 892 tiles 24 inches X 24 inches covering 3,568 square feet of playground surface. The tiles were made from 2,676 recycled California tires weighing a total of 22,300 pounds. The school reported that they expect a 20-year life without significant costs. |
