Waste Tire Amnesty Day Grant Program Notice of Funding Availability, FY 2004-2005 |

Note: The application period for this grant cycle closed October 15, 2004. The California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) provides a Waste Tire Amnesty Day Grant Program to help divert waste tires from landfill disposal, prevent illegal tire dumping, and educate the public about waste tire recycling and proper tire maintenance. This is a competitive grant program. Applicant EligibilityCalifornia jurisdictions including cities, counties, special districts, other political subdivisions and jurisdictions joined together by formal agreements, as well as California Indian Tribes are eligible to apply for these grants. Only one application may be submitted per jurisdiction or group of jurisdictions joined together by a formal agreement. FundingA total of $500,000 is available for fiscal year 2004/2005. Each applicant may apply for up to $20,000. If two or more jurisdictions join together using a formal agreement, they may apply for $25,000 per jurisdiction up to a maximum of $100,000. The CIWMB reserves the right to fund an amount less than the amount requested. Grant awards are contingent upon availability of funding. Matching Fund RequirementAll applicants must agree to contribute a minimum matching fund equal to or greater than 25 percent of the grant amount requested. Eligible ProjectsProjects must include two elements to be eligible for funding: 1) Amnesty Day Events, which allow citizens to bring waste tires to convenient locations for proper management; and 2) an educational component, which promotes tire recycling and proper tire maintenance. The educational component may include brochures, other printed materials and electronic means of outreach, and presentations to groups. It may also include information on tire-derived products, and health and safety and environmental issues regarding the illegal discarding and storage of waste tires. ApplicationApplications will be available in July 2004. You may request an application by one of four ways: (1) download the application from this site, (2) e-mail your request to tiregrants@ciwmb.ca.gov, (3) leave a message requesting an application on the CIWMB’s Grant Hotline at (916) 341-6441, or (4) complete the request form (Adobe PDF, 14 KB) and return it by mail to the address indicated. Question-and-Answer PeriodBecause this is a competitive grant program, CIWMB staff cannot answer any questions about your project or the application except through the question and answer process. Therefore, if you have questions, you must submit them in writing to the CIWMB by September 24, 2004. Questions and answers will be compiled and posted on this site. Similar or related questions may be reworded for clarity and responded to as one question. A copy of the questions and answers will be mailed to those who request it by checking the box on application request form, or indicating so when calling or e-mailing as noted above. Application DeadlineApplications may be mailed or hand-delivered, but must be received by the CIWMB on or before 4:00 p.m., October 15, 2004. Applications that are e-mailed or faxed will not be accepted. Late applications will be returned and will not be considered for grant funding. |
