This grant application period is now closed. Please
see the Tire Grants page for information on any current
grant programs. The California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) receives an annual appropriation from the California Tire Recycling Management Fund to administer the Tire Recycling Act (Brown, Chapter 974, Statutes of 1989) and related legislation. As part of the Act, CIWMB is offering the Local Government Public Education and Amnesty Day Grant Program to provide opportunities to divert waste tires from landfill disposal, prevent illegal tire dumping, and promote markets for recycled-content tire products. FundingIt is anticipated that $500,000 will be available for this grant program. Award of the FY 2002-2003 Local Government Public Education and Amnesty Day Grants is contingent upon and subject to the availability of funds appropriated for the grant. A single, eligible jurisdiction may apply for up to $20,000. Two eligible jurisdictions, under a Joint Power Authority (JPA) agreement or a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), can apply for up to $35,000; and three jurisdictions, under a Joint Power Authority agreement or an MOU, can apply for up to $50,000. The CIWMB reserves the right to fund individual phases of selected proposals, and may therefore fund an amount less than the amount requested. The CIWMB will award grants on a competitive basis. Matching Fund RequirementAll applicants are required to provide minimum matching funds equaling 50 percent of the grant amount requested. Applicant EligibilityCalifornia cities, counties, special districts, joint powers agencies or political subdivisions, and California Indian tribes are eligible to apply for this grant. One application per jurisdiction will be accepted for this grant cycle. Eligible ProjectsGrant funds are available for local governments to develop education programs on the requirements for proper tire disposal and on ways to properly care for tires. The education may be in the form of brochures or other printed or electronic means of sharing waste tire information. The education program may include information on recycled-content waste tire products and health and safety and environmental issues of waste tires. The program also includes Amnesty event for the public to deal with nuisance tires on their property. Applicants are encouraged to enter into partnerships with local businesses, Local Conservation Corps, or other entities to maximize the scope of the program. ApplicationYou may request the application by one of three ways: e-mail your request to tiregrants@ciwmb.ca.gov; leave a message requesting an application on the CIWMB’s Grant Hotline at (916) 341-6441; or download the application here.
