State Agency Recycling Recognition (STARR) Award Program

Selection Criteria

Applications for the 2002 Awards were evaluated based on the following criteria, as applicable:

• Has the applicant has achieved greater than 25 percent overall waste diversion?
• Has the specific program(s) under consideration for award achieved a significant, measurable reduction in disposed waste?
• Are programs cost-effective in terms of relative cost for the amount of waste diverted?
• Are a wide range of diversion and disposal issues addressed?
• Has the applicant conducted a formal waste assessment/characterization?
• Does the program include innovations by means of unique ideas, methods, or technologies?
• Is the program regularly evaluated for effectiveness and improved based upon that evaluation?
