Resources, Assistance, and Training

The Board assists State agencies and facilities to reduce the amount of waste they generate and dispose of by implementing waste prevention, reuse, and recycling programs.

The Board's role includes:

• Training and advising State employees and recycling coordinators.
• Gathering and reporting data on materials collected for recycling.
• Assisting local governments in meeting solid waste reduction goals.
• Setting a good example of State leadership in conserving natural resources through waste prevention, recycling, and buying recycled products.

Waste Management Program Implementation and Enhancement

• How to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Buy Recycled in California State Government provides general guidance for developing your programs and examples of what other agencies have done successfully.
• Get Started Today provides quick tips on things you can do right away.
• Recycling contracts have been set up by the Board--ready for your use.
• Recycling opportunities lists specific resources for recycling various materials.
• Office waste reduction posters can be ordered online.
• Venue facilities and special events: Learn how to reduce waste and increase recycling at college stadiums, fairgrounds, State parks and museums, and other facilities. The site includes downloadable model policies, fact sheets, case studies, resource links, and other useful information.
• Additional resources are available throughout the Board's website.

Recycled-Content Product Procurement

• State Agency Buy Recycled Campaign (SABRC): This Board program assists State agencies in meeting their procurement mandates and submitting annual reports.
• Creating a Successful Buy Recycled Program: A step-by-step guide that is useful for State agencies and others as well.
• SABRC Training Manual: Manual and forms to assist State agencies in completing their annual procurement reports.

Waste Management Annual Reports

The following information is available to help State agencies and large State facilities understand and implement their waste management annual reporting requirements (as mandated by the passage of AB 75 in 1999).

• State Agency and Organization Recycling Database (SOARD): Search for a specific State agency or facility and review its integrated waste management plan.
• Basics: State Agency Recycling is a summary of the requirements of AB 75 with links to relevant statutes and regulations and the text of the law.
