Kern County

The 8,235 square mile Kern County / Lancaster Recycling Market Development Zone includes all the incorporated and unincorporated areas of Kern County and the neighboring City of Lancaster in Los Angeles County.  The incorporated cities of Kern County are Arvin, Bakersfield, California City, Delano, Maricopa, McFarland, Ridgecrest, Shafter, Taft, Tehachapi and Wasco.  Kern County, the nations third most productive agriculture and number one oil-producing county in the nation, is located at the southern end of California’s Central Valley. Incentives

Kern County / Lancaster RMDZ is home to four Enterprise Zones, a Foreign Trade Zone, a Permit Consolidation Zone and targeted Redevelopment Areas.  Businesses in unincorporated areas of the county are eligible to apply for County incentives, and some cities offer financial incentives as well.  Also, a variety of tax credits are available for companies that hire qualified individuals.

Target Materials

Local officials and businesses are interested in using innovative technologies to manufacture products from secondary materials such as organics, construction and demolition material, plastics, paper and glass.

Infrastructure

Kern County is located approximately 90 miles north of Los Angeles along the State’s major north/south corridor, Interstate 5.  Highway 58, which is an east/west corridor that connects to all the major eastern markets, also runs through Kern County.  Commercial and passenger rail and air service are also available for business needs.  In addition, there are many industrially zoned sites and business parks available and equipped to handle manufacturing operations.
