"A Great Time to Renew Our Commitment to Recycling"

The California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) is pleased to be a sponsor of America Recycles Day (ARD) and to have CIWMB Chair Linda Moulton-Patterson in the role of California Co-Chair of this annual event.

Visit the official National ARD Website, as well as the California ARD site, and read the letter distributed by California Co-Chair Liz Citrino. The U.S. EPA's Jobs Through Recycling Website includes the results of the U.S. Recycling Economic Information (REI) Study regarding the economic impacts of recycling and reuse.

What Can You Do?

As we observe this annual reminder that every day should be "America recycles day," the CIWMB encourages all Californians to renew their commitment to conserving resources and consuming wisely by practicing the three Rs--reduce, reuse, and recycle, along with closing the loop through buying recycled.

Reduce
Visit the CIWMB's Waste Prevention World for tips on how consumers and commercial enterprises alike can save money and reduce the amount of waste they generate.

Reuse
The CIWMB maintains a site dedicated to links, resources, and profiles of successful reuse activities around the state and across the nation. CalMAX, the California Materials Exchange, offers businesses and institutions a forum through which to find and trade surplus materials.

Recycle
Whether you simply check out our general collection of recycling links and tips, or dig deeper to see if a business in your area has been honored by the State for reducing waste, there's always something more to learn about turning trash into treasure.

Buy Recycled
If you aren't buying recycled, you're really not recycling! With resources dedicated to assisting public agencies to comply with mandated procurement measures and helping manufacturers of innovative recycled-content products reach new customers, as well as maintaining one of the most extensive directories of recycled-content products, the CIWMB is committed to promoting the practice of environmentally preferred purchasing.
