CIWMB's Chair Margo Reid Brown and Keep America Beautiful staff on platform of railway car.Time for the Great American Clean Up! Chair Margo Reid Brown participated in the national kickoff of the Keep America Beautiful Great American Cleanup. The event took place at the historic Old Town Sacramento Railroad Museum. Huell Howser played emcee for the event as the guest speakers delivered remarks in the tradition of a “whistle stop tour” on the platform of a railway car. Board Member Rosalie Mulé with City of Encinitas representatives holding their big check.Big Check for Big Effort: Board Member Rosalie Mulé has been making the rounds to present "big" checks to local jurisdictions that have received grants from the Integrated Waste Management Board. In March member Mulé visited City of Solana Beach, City of Moreno Valley and, pictured here, the City of Encinitas. These presentations have provided a great venue for the Board to get feedback from our grantees and build stronger relationships with our local partners. Member Mulé has been an outstanding advocate for the CIWMB programs and mission.

The Waste Reduction Awards Program (WRAP) recognizes five California businesses that have surpassed even the lofty accomplishments of other 2007 WRAP winners. These five California businesses are being awarded the honor of being recognized as this year's WRAP of the Year (WOTY) winners for their outstanding waste-cutting efforts to reduce nonhazardous waste and send less garbage to our landfills.

It will now be easier for consumers to recycle their plastic grocery bags. Most local grocery stores will be offering in-store recycling bins and reusable bags for purchase.

From its humble beginnings in the United States in 1970, to presently being observed in 175 countries, Earth Day is the largest modern-day holiday in the world.

Be tire smart, play your part.National Tire Safety Week, April 23-28 2007
An initiative of the Be Tire Smart, Play Your PART program. The educational program aims to teach drivers about the importance of taking simple care and maintenance steps to keep tires safe and performing at optimal levels. More than 15,000 tire dealers, automobile and safety organizations across the country participated in National Tire Safety Week.

Encouraging San Diego area residents to recycle their electronic waste or "e-waste", the California Integrated Waste Management Board announced a new eRecycle Consumer Education Program at E-World Recyclers in coordination with E-World Recyclers grand opening.

50 Percent Reduction AchievedThank You California! 50 Percent Reduction Achieved!
Californians have essentially cut our trash in half since 1989. We are throwing away less and reusing and recycling more than ever. We are finding new and innovative ways to use unwanted materials that have typically gone to landfills or were used as fuel base. See also 50 Percent Celebration Events.
