The 5th Annual Partnership Conference was our most successful to date! Held
in Tahoe City at the Granlibakken Conference Center, this year's conference was
entitled "Bridges to Common Ground" and incorporated speakers and
activities to reinforce this concept. Roughly 200 LEA and
CIWMB staff participated in an array of panels, exhibits, and presentations. The
conference agenda
includes links to information presented and
discussed during the various sessions.
Day 1
- New LEA Orientation: Provided information on Board Members, new
and existing Board programs, the Enforcement Advisory Council (EAC), the
California Conference of Directors of Environmental Health (CCDEH), and other
relevant topics.
- Exhibition Hall: Attendees were able to meet and discuss a variety of Board
and other Cal/EPA programs with staff.
- Welcome remarks were provided by Linda Moulton-Patterson (CIWMB Board Chair), and
Justin Malan (filling in for Dan Avera, CCDEH Policy Committee Chair).
- Keynote presentation by Dr. Gary Beale, "All Leadership is
Self-Leadership."
- "Playing on Common Ground," a series of icebreakers designed to
foster communication and partnership.
- Visit the agenda to view session topics.
Day 2
- Panel discussions
and presentations relating to Permitting and Enforcement and other Board programs.
The day was highlighted by a general session discussing electronic waste.
- Michael Geraghty—back by popular demand—spoke during both lunch and dinner
on conflict resolution and the art of persuasion.
- This year also included a DJ and karaoke.
Day3
- Panel discussions and
presentations continued relating to Permitting and Enforcement and other Board
programs. The conference concluded with a general session discussing
conference highlights and next steps.
Less Paper Conference
Due to many positive responses from
last year's conference, we once again made an effort to reduce paper waste. Each conference attendee received only a thin
packet with the agenda and other key information. Most PowerPoint presentations and other
"handouts" were made available via the Internet (before and after the
conference) at the Partnership 2000 web site using recycled electrons!
