- Deal with Adversity -- This is a key skill. Some are
great
and others can't cope. Why is it that some become stronger
through adversity, when others wilt and go down? "That which doesn't kill you, makes
you stronger " says the old German proverb.
How would you rate yourself on this key skill?
- Negotiate Successfully
"Negotiation is the art of friendly persuasion."
"It's the ability to sell yourself and your ideas."
How persuasive are you? Are you influential?
Read "You Can negotiate Anything" by Herb Cohen. (Great read)
- Communicate Effectively
We all communicate. 80% of us are not effective communicators.
58% California marriages now end in Divorce.
#1 Reason - poor Communication skills.
Master Communicators do 3 things:
- They are Crystal Clear and they work hard at it.
They have clear written goals.
They know exactly what they want. Do You?
Read "How To Get Control of Your Time and Your Life"
by Alan Lakein. Excellent book for goal setting.
- Their Self-Talk is always positive.
They know the most important conversations are the ones with
themselves. They ENCOURAGE themselves continually.
They never dwell on negative thoughts.
They "Feed the FAITH in themselves and STARVE the doubt."
How do you rate? Become an ENCOURAGER.
The most important psychological discovery of the 20th Century is the need for
Self-esteem. = a terrific mental image of yourself deserving success, happiness. Low
self-esteem is a global problem.
Read a Fantastic Book called "Psychocybernetics" by
Maxwell Maltz. Don't be put off by the terrible title.
Trust me, it is a fabulous book on self-esteem, the only one you need ever read on the
subject.
- Master communicators are master LISTENERS
MOST PEOPLE TALK AT LEAST 70% of the time.
Start listening 70% and see the magic happen.
Start asking UNUSUAL questions.....
"How can I be a better Dad / Mom / Boss/ CEO etc?
" What keeps you awake at night?"
' Who are your heroes?"
"Best book/movie/person you ever experienced?"
Read: "How to Win Friends and Influence
People." Dale Carnegie
