For seven seasons, the California Integrated Waste Management Board
(CIWMB) was a proud sponsor of California Heartland, a weekly
half-hour public television series that focuses
on California agriculture. Produced by KVIE Channel 6 in Sacramento,
information about waste prevention, compost
and sustainable concepts is routinely highlighted in various segments
throughout the year.
Background
The CIWMB is responsible for protecting
the public's health and safety and the environment through management of
the estimated 60 million tons of solid waste generated in California. The
Board works in partnership with local government, industry, and the public
to reduce waste disposal and ensure environmentally safe landfills.
California reuses and recycles approximately 42 percent of its solid
waste.
Agriculture continues to be an important market for used-oil
recycling and one of the largest potential markets for urban compost
and mulch products. Sponsoring this unique and excellent show
provides the CIWMB with significant visibility by presenting its messages about
used-oil recycling and compost to urban and rural television viewers
throughout California. CIWMB sponsorship began February 19, 1999.
