Holiday Tree Recycling

According to the National Holiday Tree Association, more than 33 million real holiday trees are sold in North America every year and holiday tree recycling helps return a renewable resource back to the environment.

Many California communities have holiday tree recycling programs. If your city or county is not listed in this directory, contact your local government or ask your local holiday tree grower about programs near you. You can also visit Earth 911.org, HolidayRecycling.com or ChristmasTree.org to find a holiday tree recycling program in your area.

Are you a California city, county, or nonprofit organization interested in advertising your holiday recycling program on this site? Contact the staff person at the bottom of this page. Other holiday waste reduction ideas can also be found below

Alternative recycling uses for holiday trees include erosion control or wildlife cover. Check out these CNN articles:

Other Holiday Waste Reduction Ideas

Our Holiday Waste Reduction pages give you tips on alternative gift-giving/wrapping ideas and, after the gifts are opened, what you can do with ribbons, boxes, packaging, and "old" items that new ones replace.

Each November marks the kickoff of the Use Less Stuff Campaign, a nationwide effort to reduce holiday waste and conserve resources. The campaign's website includes a list of 42 Ways to Trim Your Holiday Wasteline.
