Disposal and Diversion Rate Statistics

The Statewide Per Capita Disposal Rate Statistics page provides information on the goal measurement system for 2007 and later.

Californians diverted more than 50 million tons of solid waste away from landfills and into recycling, composting and transformation programs in 2006, for an estimated statewide diversion rate of 54 percent. Diversion has increased ten-fold since the Integrated Waste Management Act was passed in 1989.
