October 2004: Inspector Safety and Unexploded Ordnance

In 2004, the LEA Training Program arranged for Carl Palladino to teach a one-day class on inspector safety and unexploded ordnance. The training consisted of two separate but related sessions. The morning session (Inspector Safety) provided an overview and refresher for solid waste inspectors on the issue of field safety. The afternoon session (Unexploded Ordnance) trained field staff to identify unexploded devices and follow specific safety rules when dealing with these devices.

Course Topics

  1. Review CIWMB inspection rules
  2. Discuss types of hazards (fire, explosion, radiological, chemical, and physical)
  3. Consider hazard recognition and avoidance for each type
  4. Identify workplace violence warning signs
  5. Allow participants to create a job hazard analysis for differing work site scenarios

Unexploded Ordnance

  1. Recognize unexploded ordnance
  2. Identify the hazards
  3. Provide procedures for unexploded devices
