Class Overview
This 2-day
training was designed to highlight the solid waste facility permit process
from A to Z with a strong emphasis on the California Environmental Quality
Act (CEQA) linkages. One and one-half days were focused on the basics of the
permit process and CEQA. The course also included more advanced review of
permit and CEQA issues.
Objectives of the
Training
- Increase knowledge of
the steps in the solid waste facilities permit process
- Greater awareness of
the roles and responsibilities of the many entities that participate in the
permit process for solid waste facilities
- Greater insight into
the relationship between the solid waste facilities permit process and the
CEQA process
- Increase knowledge of
the steps in the CEQA process
- Better understanding of
the role and responsibilities of the LEA in the CEQA process as a lead
agency and as a responsible agency
- Awareness of the tools
and resources available to assist in navigating through the permit and CEQA
processes
- Answers to questions to
implementation problems or concerns relative to the revised solid waste
facilities permit application

(169) people attended this training including California Integrated Waste
Management Board (CIWMB) Staff, Local Enforcement Agency (LEA) Staff, and
Planning Department Staff. Attendees were offered up to 8-hours of CEU credit from the Solid Waste
Association of North America (SWANA).
