LEA Equipment Loan Program

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is the cost of borrowing Board equipment or having LEA-owned equipment repaired?

A. Loans and approved repairs are made at no cost to the LEA.

Q. How is equipment sent to and from the Board?

A. The Board currently uses common carriers to send equipment to LEAs. LEAs may also pick up and drop off equipment in person or work with shop staff to arrange for special handling.

Q. Who is eligible to participate?

A. All LEAs that are currently certified or partially certified by the CIWMB are eligible to participate.

Q. How do I request equipment?

A. LEAs should read LEA Advisory #30 and submit a signed copy of the loan request form (MS Word 97/2000, 29 KB or Adobe PDF, 15 KB). This may be done in person, via fax, or by mail.

Q. Will the Board repair LEA-owned equipment?

A. Yes. Instrument repair on LEA-owned instruments may be limited to $400 per instrument with an $800 per LEA maximum. These amounts may change based on availability of funds or as determined by the program coordinator. The LEA is responsible for the cost of insured shipping to the field shop.

Q. How long will it take to service LEA-owned equipment?

A. Some repairs, including calibration and computer data downloads can be done on a walk-in basis. Repairs requiring work that cannot be done at the shop are sent to a contract vendor. This usually requires 2–3 weeks depending on the extent of repairs needed, availability of parts, and the vendors work load.

Q. Can a “loaner” instrument or other equipment be made available while LEA equipment is being repaired?

A. In most cases, a loaner can be provided while repairs are being made.

Q. How can LEAs request training or technical assistance?

A. LEAs can contact Board staff at the field shop via e-mail, phone, or fax, or in person during normal business hours. Training is provided at the discretion of the shop coordinator.

Q. Can any type, brand, or model of instrument be repaired under this program?

A. Only those instruments specified in the LEA Advisory #30 may be repaired. The Board may limit repair cost.
