Landfill Gas Tools and Resources |
|
The following tools and resources are available to LEAs on issues
related to landfill gas.
Gas Monitoring EquipmentThe principal constituent of interest in monitoring landfill gas is methane. Combustible gas monitoring instruments should be able to detect methane at levels between 0-100% by volume in air while being suitably accurate in the range of 0-5% by volume in air. Gas monitoring instruments should be appropriately calibrated and maintained in good operating condition. There are several instruments which Board staff currently use to monitor landfill gas:*
It is very important that the person using the monitoring instrument receive adequate training prior to its use. *Disclaimer: The State makes no warranty, express or implied, and assumes no liability for the information contained in this document. Equipment Loan ProgramThe CIWMB developed the LEA equipment loan program to support LEA equipment needs. The program is intended to support LEAs whose financial or technical resources limit their ability to obtain and operate instrumentation and other technical and scientific equipment. The equipment loan program is available to all LEAs certified or partially certified by the CIWMB. The program provides support through:
Field Staff Health and Safety ProgramThe Board's Health and Safety Manual is one component of the CIWMB's overall Health and Safety Program. The program has been developed to comply with state and federal laws and regulations designed to protect employees' from toxic, hazardous or infectious materials and physical hazards they may be exposed to in the work environment. The Field Health and Safety Program identifies, evaluates, and controls health and safety hazards in the field for the purpose of CIWMB employee protection, and addresses, as appropriate, site analysis, engineering controls, exposure limits, and waste handling procedures for field work. The Field Health and Safety Procedures are intended for use by field staff to provide them with health and safety guidance when performing field activities. Appendix 2 includes information on training required or recommended for and instrumentation to be taken into the field by different field staff designations (referred to as tier 0, tier 1 or tier 2). |
