Landfill Closure Loan Program

The California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) will be awarding approximately $640,000 in competitive, low or interest-free loans for the 2008/2009 funding cycle. Landfill Closure Loan Program (LCLP) funding is contingent upon final budget allocation.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants are operators of older-technology, unlined landfills who desire to close early to avoid or mitigate potential environmental problems caused or threatened by continued operation of the site.

Application Deadline and Award

LCLP loans are awarded on a competitive basis. CIWMB is announcing a notice of funding availability (NOFA) with an initial application deadline of January 15, 2009. Complete applications must be postmarked or hand-delivered to CIWMB's Sacramento office by 4:00 p.m. on the deadline date (January 15, 2009) to be considered for the initial evaluation of applications. Applications submitted after the initial deadline may be considered on a first-come, first-served basis if there are remaining loan funds available after the CIWMB awards the initial loan(s). CIWMB anticipates awarding loans by March 1, 2009 with maximum loan amounts not to exceed $500,000 per landfill project. Loans must be repaid over a period not to exceed ten (10) years.
