Household Hazardous Waste Grant: 10th Cycle, FY 2001/02

Questions and Answers

The following questions were submitted concerning the FY 2001/02 HHW Grant.

Question: Our jurisdiction intends to establish a permanent program for the collection of electronic equipment to be reused, repaired, or recycled. We intend to partner with local groups to have them serve as drop-off collection sites for electronic equipment. Since these drop-off collection sites will continue to be used after the grant term ends, would they be considered permanent collection facilities?

Answer:  No, these would not be considered permanent HHW collection facilities because no other hazardous waste is being accepted at these sites. Health and Safety Code 25218.1(h) provides the definition of a permanent HHW collection facility and what you propose does not meet that definition.

Question: May a jurisdiction that is applying for the Fiscal Year 2000/01 HHW Grant be a participant in a regional application for the Fiscal Year 2001/02 HHW Grant?

Answer:  Yes.

Question: Would it be more advantageous to apply for the 2001/02 HHW Grant instead of the 2000/01 Grant?

Answer:  Each applicant will have to determine for themselves which grant cycle would be more advantageous for which to apply. This can be determined by reviewing Exhibit F, the scoring criteria, for each grant and determining how many of the Program Criteria points the applicant qualifies for.
