5th Annual Statewide Annual Household Hazardous Waste/Used Oil Conference

Course Descriptions

 

24-Hour HHW Hazwoper Training
This interactive training program is for workers, supervisors and managers involved in the operation of HHW collection facilities. The course is designed to satisfy the Cal/OSHA 24-hour training portion required in Title 8, Cal. Code Regs., Section 5192. The course will also meet the ASTM recommended training outline for HHW Collection Operations. Topics and activities include waste management, HHW operational procedures, health and safety laws and regulations, biological hazards, bloodborne pathogens, materials exchange, emergency response, physical hazards common to HHW operations, personal protective equipment, respiratory protection, decontamination, fundamentals of toxicology, chemistry of hazardous materials, chemical safety, instrumentation, HM126F, and spill prevention and counter control measures.

This interactive training class is designed specifically for workers, supervisors, and managers involved in the operation of HHW facilities. The course is designed to satisfy the Cal/OSHA 8-hour annual hazwoper refresher training requirement in Title 8, Calf. Code of Regulations, Section 5192. The class will also meet the ASTM recommended training outline for HHW Collection Operations. Topics and activities include waste management, HHW operational procedures, health and safety laws, biological hazards, bloodborne pathogens, emergency response, physical hazards common to HHW operations, personal protective equipment, respiration protection, decontamination. Chemical safety, and toxicology.

Annual Respirator Training & Personal Protective Equipment
Class designed to satisfy the annual respirator training requirement in the Cal/OSHA respiratory protection regulations [Title 8, Cal. Code Regs., Section 5144(k)] and trained in the use of personal protective equipment [Title 8, Cal. Code Regs., Section 3380(c)]. The training will include: control of exposures; regulatory requirements; proper use, fit, limitations, donning, emergency use, inspection, maintenance and storage of respiratory protective equipment; and personal protective equipment. Bring your respirator, equipped with a HEPA filter (N100, R100, or P100), to be qualitatively fit-tested at the end of the course.

Chemistry for the Nonchemist, Intermediate Level
Build on your basic chemical knowledge to understand how chemicals interact, why some reactions produce unwanted effects and how to handle chemicals safely. Learn the chemical properties of common household hazards and how these are used in unknown identification along with what problems specific chemicals present to the worker and the environment. Gain knowledge on monitoring equipment, what different types of equipment cal tell you and what they can't. Discover how to access and interpret chemical information.

HM126 and Spill Prevention and Counter Control
This course is designed to cover all the training requirements necessary for job specific positions under 49 CFR Part 172.700 (formerly HM 126F). In addition it will cover Cal/OSHA job specific requirements. A new interactive CD on Oil Pollution Prevention will be demonstrated and each attendee will receive a copy of the CD.
