Q. Will the Sustainable Building Grant Program
continue past Cycle 2?
A. We are planning for future grant
cycles; however, allocation of funds is subject to approval by the Board during its annual
contract allocation process.
Q. Will the grant funds cover the costs for LEED certification?
A. Yes. LEED certification is an eligible cost under the Sustainable
Building Grant Program.
Q. Will the Sustainable Building Grants cover the cost of building materials
for construction?
A. Yes, if the materials are sustainable or "green," or are
recycled-content building materials, then they would be eligible under this grant program.
Q. Are universities or other local school districts eligible to apply for
funding under "local governments"?
A. No. Universities and local school districts are not considered
local government agencies. Although, if you are interested in designing a
"green" building, or incorporating sustainable features into a building, Board
staff would be happy to provide you with technical assistance.
Q. I noticed that you raised the points for the green procurement policy from 5
points to 15 points. Why did you do this, and what exactly are you looking for in a green
procurement policy?
A. The point value for the green procurement policy was raised because
of Board members' input. The Board has made it clear that it expects its grant recipients
to "close the loop," through reducing, reusing, recycling, and buying recycled
products. Board staff will look for a policy modified/adopted within the last 5 years,
evidence of implementation, a discussion of the results of policy implementation, and
evidence of the use of re-refined oil in your vehicles. Cities will still be able to
receive 5 of the 15 points if they adopt a green procurement policy during the application
period. For a copy of the Board's Waste Reduction and Procurement policy contact Kristen
