Food Scrap Management

Funding

The CIWMB frequently gets requests for food diversion funding opportunities. Although there are currently no discretionary funds available specifically for food waste diversion from the CIWMB, we will post available federal, state or regional loans, grants, or contracts as they become available, so please check back periodically.

Reuse Assistance Grants

The Board periodically offers grants to provide incentives for local public agencies in California to promote and apply the concept of reuse in their community. The Notice of Funds Available for the next offering is tentatively scheduled to be mailed on January 1, 2003. Cities, counties, special districts, and regional agencies with authority to provide solid waste handling services are eligible to apply individually or regionally, and may partner with any entity that seeks to promote the concept of reuse and establish new or expanded opportunities for reuse in California. For more information, visit our Reuse site.

Other Grant Sources

Private foundations and nonprofit organizations periodically offer grant opportunities. The Grant Funding Organizations page features leads to grants that may support programs or projects related to food scrap diversion. Please read the application criteria on each foundations website before requesting an application. For example, some foundations may only fund nonprofit groups or a regionally specific project.
