Cathode Ray Tube and Universal Waste Survey Introduction |
The survey is now closed. April 10, 2002 Dear CRT Stakeholder: The California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) has prepared the enclosed survey in an effort to identify the concerns of waste management operators, recycling coordinators, local enforcement agencies (LEA), and certified unified program agencies (CUPA) with respect to managing cathode ray tubes (CRT) and universal wastes. By completing this survey, you can help the CIWMB Electronics Waste Working Group focus their efforts and resources effectively. This survey will help us recognize and prioritize your needs. We have also included an optional universal waste section as part of the survey. Please add your comments regarding any special issues or concerns you have about other universal wastes, including batteries, fluorescent tubes, aerosol cans, and mercury switches. We appreciate any suggestions you may have on how the CIWMB may provide assistance. Please complete this survey and return it by May 24, 2002. You may complete the survey electronically or fax your responses to (916) 319-7217. Should you need additional assistance, please contact Janet Munger at jmunger@ciwmb.ca.gov or (916) 341-6382. Please Note: The Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) adopted emergency regulations for the management of cathode ray tubes (CRT) on August 3, 2001. DTSC plans on re-adopting these emergency regulations in early April, and will continue to do so until permanent regulations are in place. The emergency regulations state:
I also want to bring to your attention upcoming workshops being held as part of a related project designed to gather cost data in support of Cal/EPA's efforts to represent local government interests in a national dialogue on electronic product stewardship. These workshops will be held May 29th in Long Beach and May 30th in Oakland, and will serve as a way for local government representatives to convey current, as well as anticipated, concerns regarding the growing burden of managing electronic discards. I encourage you to reserve one of those dates and to visit the Board's E-waste Web site to learn more about these events. Thank you for your time and effort in completing the CRT and universal waste survey ! (Original signed by) |
