Industry-Sponsored Electronic Equipment Recovery Resources

There are a growing number of programs sponsored by members of the electronic industry and related organizations that can help plan for and manage electronic products at the end of their useful life. If you know of a program that is not included on this list, please contact us (see the bottom of this page for contact information).

Are you planning to buy a new computer for your home or business? As part of your purchase, make sure you ask about options for managing your "old" computer(s). Companies are establishing programs to help you reuse or recycle old computers and other electronics as part of the process of buying or leasing new models. You may be able to trade in your old computer for credit towards a new one or receive a tax deduction for donating your old computer. Below you can find information on some of the industry-coordinated programs. (Please see our disclaimer.)

  • Dell offers users ways to donate, trade in, or recycle unwanted equipment.
  • Epson offers a program that enables Epson customers to send back used Epson products for recycling.
  • Hewlett-Packard has a service that gives consumers and businesses a convenient way to recycle unwanted computer equipment.
  • Gateway offers qualified buyers options to donate or recycle their old PC.
  • IBM offers a product recycling program designed for individual PC owners and small businesses.

The Electronic Industries Alliance, in cooperation with contributing manufacturers Canon, Hewlett Packard, JVC, Kodak, Nokia, Panasonic, Philips Electronics, Sharp, Sony, and Thomson, has initiated an innovative electronics collection and recycling pilot project.
