SB 20 Implementation Workshop

The California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) and Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) invited all stakeholders to a workshop held on Thursday, December 11 from 9:00 a.m. to approximately 1:00 p.m. at the Cal/EPA building.

Implementing SB 20 will require the development and adoption of emergency regulations to address a range of issue areas. This workshop was an opportunity to review and provide input on these issue areas. As anticipated, proposed regulatory language was not presented. Instead, participants in the workshop provided input that will help shape the implementation approaches for which regulation will be developed.

Desired workshop outcomes included:

• Providing information to stakeholders on SB 20 implementation;
• Gathering stakeholder feedback on key SB 20 regulatory issues and approaches;
• Facilitating dialogue between and amongst stakeholder groups and regulatory entities to raise issues of concern and questions related to SB 20 implementation.

The workshop format consisted of an opening plenary, lasting approximately an hour, where all participants learned about implementation status. This was followed by a series of concurrent breakout sessions to discuss in depth key regulatory issue areas.
