#### CIWMB to Hear Informational Item on CEW Program Status ####

The California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) will hear a discussion item on the status of the covered electronic waste (CEW) recovery and recycling program at its Sustainability and Market Development Committee meeting on January 15, 2008. The item is listed as Item F on the committee's agenda. The associated written item is available as Item 18 on the agenda for the full Board meeting. This item might only be heard in committee.

Program staff will provide the committee with a recap of issues discussed at the November 5, 2007 stakeholder workshop, summarize the current operational status of the CEW program, and look ahead to near-future considerations, including possible payment rate and/or fee level adjustments.

More information on CIWMB Board and Committee meetings can be found at: www.ciwmb.ca.gov/Agendas/.

#### Reminder: Annual Reports Due to DTSC And CIWMB Soon ####

If your organization participated in the Covered Electronic Waste Recovery and Recycling Payment System, or simply handled Universal Waste Electronic Devices or CRT materials in California in the past year, the following reminders are directed at you:

CIWMB Annual Net Cost Reports Due March 1, 2008: Regulations implementing portions of the Electronic Waste Recycling Act require approved collectors and recyclers to maintain records documenting operational costs, and annually to submit a report to the CIWMB on the net costs of collecting and recycling covered electronic wastes (CEWs). The next report is due on or before March 1, 2008.

In order to properly set the recovery and recycling payments rates, the CIWMB must evaluate the costs incurred by approved participants when conducting collection and recycling activities. An important tool in this evaluation is the Net Cost Report currently required of all participants.

The CIWMB has experienced a frustratingly high rate of tardy reports in past years. Failure to submit the Net Cost Report on time is considered a prohibited activity and is grounds for revocation of approval. All participants are strongly urged to ensure their compliance with reporting deadlines.

The report forms and a guide, which have not changed from last year, are posted on the CIWMB's website: www.ciwmb.ca.gov/Electronics/Act2003/Recovery/NetCost/.

For more information contact Matt McCarron.

DTSC Annual Reports Due February 1, 2008 : If your organization handled, treated, recycled or exported waste CRT materials or Universal Waste Electronic Devices (UWEDs) during calendar year 2007, the required annual report summarizing those activities is due on or before February 1, 2008, to the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC). The report is required even if you do not participate in the Electronic Waste Recycling Act`s CEW payment system.

The information you are required to submit depends on the scope of your activities. More information on annual reporting requirements, including how it can be completed online, can be found here: www.dtsc.ca.gov/HazardousWaste/EWaste/.
