Dear Electronic Product Stakeholder: This electronic newsletter is an update on the implementation of California`s Electronic Waste Recycling Act of 2003 and other electronic waste (e-waste) management developments in California. ===================== In this issue: DTSC TO HOLD WORKSHOP ON NOTIFICATION AND ANNUAL REPORTING REQUIREMENTS FOR HANDLERS AND RECYCLERS OF UWEDS AND CRTS ===================== The Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) will hold a training workshop to cover DTSC's new online reporting system designed to streamline submittal of notifications and annual reports required by persons engaged in the collection, handling and/or treatment of Universal Waste Electronic Devices or CRT Materials. The workshop will cover existing notification and annual reporting requirements. A demonstration of DTSC's new on line reporting system will be conducted. The new system will benefit handlers, collectors and recyclers by providing a means to electronically manage and report data required to comply with notification and annual reporting requirements. The workshop will be held at the following time and place: January 12, 2007 CalEPA Headquarters Note: Visitors must check in with security upon entering the CalEPA building and DTSC Regional Office. All interested parties are invited to participate in this public workshop. Please confirm your interest in attending the workshop in person or via audio webcast by sending an e-mail notice indicating you will be attending to Linda Sargent at LSargent@dtsc.ca.gov or Robert Sullivan at RSulliva@dtsc.ca.gov or by calling (916) 323-9219 or (916) 324-3159. Interested participants who are unable to attend the workshop at any locations may monitor the workshop live through an audio webcast. The webcast link will be available on the Cal/EPA website at http://www.calepa.ca.gov/broadcast/. Questions and comments may be submitted in real time by sending an e-mail during the workshop. DTSC staff will monitor e-mail received during the workshop and, as time allows, read and respond to them aloud. To request special accommodations for persons with disabilities,

Ask them to contact Andre Algazi at (916) 324-3114. Background: Currently, any person that handles, collects, treats, stores accumulates or recycles universal waste electronic devices and/or CRT materials, is required to Notify the Department of Toxic Substances Control and submit an Annual Report. The content of the Notification and Annual Report depend upon the type of material handled and the type of treatment activities conducted. DTSC will review notification and reporting requirements in relation to the type of UWED and/or CRT material handled and the activities conducted at facilities that handle, collect, treat, store, accumulate or recycle these devices. The Department is launching an online reporting system in January 2007 to streamline the Notification and Annual Reporting Process. A demonstration of the online reporting system will be conducted during the workshop. Contact Information: If you have any further questions about this workshop please contact Robert Sullivan at (916) 324-3159 or RSulliva@dtsc.ca.gov. ==================================== Please note that e-mail correspondence with the State of California related to e-waste management in general, and implementation of the Electronic Waste Recycling Act in particular, should be directed to ewaste@calepa.ca.gov.
