California E-Waste Updates:

This electronic newsletter is an update on the implementation of California`s Electronic Waste Recycling Act of 2003 and other electronic waste (e-waste) management developments in California.

CIWMB TO HOST INFORMATIONAL REGULATORY UPDATE WORKSHOP: NOVEMBER 30, 2006

The California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) will hold an informational regulatory update workshop for interested parties to discuss provisions of the recently adopted final regulations governing the covered electronic waste (CEW) recovery and recycling payment system. The workshop will be on Thursday, November 30, 2006, at the Cal/EPA Headquarters Building in Sacramento and will last from 1PM until 5PM.

A general audio web-cast is anticipated to be available for the proceedings. Web-based participants will be able to submit comments and questions via e-mail during the event through the ewaste@calepa.ca.gov address.

Details:
The CIWMB is interested in assisting collectors and recyclers understand and comply with the newly adopted final regulations governing the covered electronic waste (CEW) recovery and recycling payment system. While the new regulations are substantially similar to the emergency regulations that governed the program for nearly two years, there are several key provisions that will affect approved collectors and recyclers in the system. To avoid costly missteps, it is imperative that all participants familiarize themselves with the changes.

At the workshop, program staff will review the current status of the program, detail the changes in regulation, describe the use of revised CIWMB forms, and field questions. Please note that this event will focus primarily on what has changed in the regulations; it is not intended to be an introductory training for new participants in the program, nor is it a forum in which to submit rulemaking comments on the new regulations, as they have already been adopted.

To maximize meaningful participation, stakeholders are encouraged to review applicable statutes and regulations, and to prepare specific questions prior to attending the meeting. To ensure that key issues are covered, questions can be sent in advance to ewaste@calepa.ca.gov.
