Arcata Library Bikes

Started in 1997 by Bill Burton, all-volunteer Arcata Library Bikes repairs and lends out bikes. Arcata residents can borrow a bike for up to six months with a $20 deposit. "We’ve repaired 1,500 donated bikes in the last two years," notes Burton. "Some were just sitting around in people’s backyards, some were headed for the landfill." The public can check out bikes on Saturday afternoons or whenever volunteers have the shop open.
