Springtime Update: Spring 2003 |
||
|
by Diana Rivera Another warm, California springtime is here and that means another opportunity to attend the 4th Annual Recycled Product Trade Show. Sponsored by the California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB), the show will take place at the Sacramento Convention Center on April 10 and 11, 2003. The Recycled Product Trade Show is a unique opportunity for product suppliers, State and local government staff, and private sector buyers to meet and discuss recycled-content products. For additional information, go to www.ciwmb.ca.gov/BuyRecycled/. The Waste Reduction Awards Program (WRAP) begins another season in the ongoing effort to honor businesses that work to reduce waste. In 2002, WRAP winners diverted more than 4.1 million tons of waste from landfills. The CIWMB invites the business sector to join in this waste reduction effort. Applications for the 2003 WRAP Award may be submitted between April 1 and June 30, 2003. For more information see www.ciwmb.ca.gov/WRAP. As always, CalMAX works hard to be a resource for those working to reuse and recycle. With this in mind I’d like to bring your attention to the free Grant Writing Workshops that will be offered by the CIWMB. The workshops are designed to help develop your proposal skills and improve your chances of acquiring future grant offerings. Dates and locations are yet to be determined. For additional information, or to get your name on a contact list, please contact Roger Ikemoto of the CIWMB’s Grant Administration Unit at (916) 341-6170 or email at rikemoto@ciwmb.ca.gov. IN THIS ISSUE An article from Recycle Store staffer Judy Phung is titled RecycleStore.com. This program’s objective is to connect recycled-content products manufacturers with interested buyers. Did you know that there are more than 340 products and 52 manufacturers at RecycleStore.com? For more information see www.RecycleStore.com or www.ciwmb.ca.gov/recyclestore/. In the creative reuse feature, Sarah Weimer writes about Michael Weeks’ work in reuse. He has turned a woodcarving hobby into an inventive, successful business. Weeks salvages discarded, unwanted fencing and lumber, creating useful wall coverings and furniture. In the Electronics Update article, Terri Cronin discusses new electronic hazardous waste regulations and new programs from electronic waste recyclers. A guest article from the folks in Napa County features discussion about the newly launched NapaMAX.org, the updated materials exchange program in the beautiful Napa area. NapaMAX is responsible for coordinating the reduction of materials from area landfills. Finally, the insert section of the catalog highlights recycled-content products and manufacturers of recycled-content products. Please see www.ciwmb.ca.gov/RCP for additional information.
